Growing Concepts  

Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Scottsdale, AZ-based GOLDMAN MANAGEMENT has increased by 1 unit for the Zipps Sports Grill concept, from 7 to 8 (14% concept growth).  The company also operates Goldie’s Neighborhood Sports Café (1). Overall company increase was from 8 to 9 (13% growth).  These family/casual sports bar concepts are open for lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20 per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar and seat about 350.  All locations are in AZ.

CHICAGO’S PIZZA based in Greenfield, IN (founded 1979) has increased by 1 unit, from 12 to 13 (8% growth).  These are quick serve pizza restaurants serving beer and wine.  Seating is for around 50.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$10.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are located in IN.    

Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

Concepts with 20 units or less who grew by at least 2 units.

Baton Rouge, LA-based IZZO’S ILLEGAL BURRITOS (founded 2001) has increased by 3 units, from 6 to 9 (50% growth) and entered into AL.  This is a fast casual concept, open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$12 per person check average.  Units serve beer and wine and have seating for about 200.  Catering and online ordering are available.  Stores are in AL and LA.  

Milford, CT-based CHEESEBOY GRILLED CHEESE TO GO(founded 2009) has increased by 4 units, from 4 to 8 (100% growth) and entered into NY, NJ, and RI.  This is a take-out sandwich concept, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $3-$8.  Locations are franchised and trade in CT, MA, NJ, NY, and RI.  

TWO BROTHERS BBQ of Wichita, KS (founded 1995) has increased by 2 units, from 3 to 5 (67% growth).  These are quick serve BBQ restaurants with seating for around 125.  Beer and wine are served.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$10.  Catering and banquets are offered.  All locations are in FL.

CITILINE DELI of Houston, TX has increased by 2 units, from 10 to 12 (20% growth).  These are quick serve delis with seating for around 40.  Per person check average is around $4-$10.  Meal periods are lunch ! and dinner.  Catering is available.  All locations are in TX.

Repeat Growers

Concepts previously written about in the past 18 months. 

Dallas, TX-based GENGHIS GRILL (founded 1998) has increased by 16 units for the Genghis Grill concept, from 79 to 95 (20% concept growth), entering into LA, MS, and SC.  The company also increased by 1 unit for the Baker Bros American Deli concept, from 11 to 12 (9% concept growth).  Genghis also operates 33 Taco Bell/KFC/Long John Silver’s units.  Overall company increase was from 124 to 140 (13% growth), due to the sale of the company’s 1-unit Bistro Babu San concept.  Genghis Grill is a fast casual Asian concept, open for lunch and dinner, serving full bar.  Online ordering is available at select locations.  Baker Bros is a fast casual sandwich concept, open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$12 per person price range.  Beer and wine are served.  Seating at both concepts is for about 125.  Locations are franchised and trade! in AL, AR, AZ, CO, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, LA, MN, MO, MS, NC, NM, NV, OK, SC, TN, TX, and VA.  We last featured this company on 12/14/10 (100% growth) and on 8/23/11 (3% growth).

Athens, GA-based ZAXBY’S (founded 1990) has increased by 19 units, from 528 to 547 (4% growth).  These family/casual chicken restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$12 per person check average.  Units seat about 90 and offer catering.  Online ordering is also available at select locations.  The restaurants are franchised and trade in AL, AR, FL, GA, IN, KY, MS, NC, SC, TN, TX, and VA.  We last featured this concept on 10/11/11 (3% growth).

Metairie, LA-based NEW ORLEANS HAMBURGER & SEAFOOD CO (founded 1984) has increased by 1 unit, from 8 to 9 (13% growth).  This fast casual concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30 per person check average.  Units have full bar and seating for about 80.  Catering is available.  All locations are in LA. We wrote about this concept on 3/22/11 (33% growth).

Pompano Beach, FL-based ANTHONY’S COAL FIRED PIZZA(founded 2002) has increased by 6 units, from 28 to 34 (21% growth) and entered into CT.  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $10-$30.  Units serve beer and wine and have seating for about 70.  Catering is available.  Trading areas are CT, DE, FL, NJ, NY, and PA.  We last featured this concept on 3/29/11 (13% growth).

HOF’S HUT RESTAURANT & BAKERY headquartered in Signal Hill, CA (founded 1951) has increased by 4 units for their Lucille’s BBQ concept, from 15 to 19 (27% concept growth).  The Hof’s Hut concept has 6 units.  Overall company growth is from 21 to 25 (19% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 250.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $8-$20.  Catering and online or! dering are available.  Locations are in AZ, CA and NV.  We last reported on this concept on 8/9/11 (5% company growth).
